Sample Compartment Accessories

 

The OBB sample compartment is one of many inter-connectable optical components. Hence the name of our company, Optical Building Blocks Corporation. These Optical Building Blocks can be ordered together to form a complete subassembly or they can be subsequently added to one another. In fact there are enough OBB components to choose from to build your own complete optical system for various spectroscopy requirements.

Light Source

Arc Lamps

OBB has an excellent selection of high intensity arc lamp systems. If you would like to couple the sample compartment to one of these light sources, then we have a light shield adapter tube to physically connect them. Inside the light shield you can add an optional IR filter to remove the heat component of the beam or an optical chopper to pulse the light. To learn more about our arc lamp systems, click here. Tunable Light Source

Tunable Illuminators

If you would like to couple your sample compartment to a tunable illuminator, then we have an ideal solution. OBB offers the Tunable PowerArc™ Illuminator or the extremely high intensity Tunable KiloArc™ Illuminator both of which can be coupled to the Universal Sample Compartment. Both Tunable Illuminators are f/# matched with the sample compartment optics. You can then have up to three other input or output optical channels to or from the central sample holder. So you could create a right angle fluorometer or scatter system, a straight through absorbance spectrometer, or a multi-angle pump-probe spectrometer by selecting the appropriate light sources and detection components. Lasers

Lasers

If you would like to couple your sample compartment to a tunable nanosecond pulsed laser, then we have an ideal solution. OBB offers an excellent nitrogen/dye laser which can be coupled to the Universal Sample Compartment. You can then have up to three other input or output optical channels to or from the central sample holder. So you could create a right angle time resolved fluorometer or scatter system, a straight through absorbance spectrometer, or a multi-angle pump-probe spectrometer by selecting the appropriate light sources and detection components. In fact if you added an emission monochromator and a PMT housing at right angles, you would have an ideal PChem Teaching Lab optical subsystem. All you would need is a third party boxcar averager and you could duplicate the Laser PChem system outlined in the book Physical Chemistry: Developing a Dynamic Curriculum by Richard W. Schwenz, Robert J. Moore (Editor).

Liquid Light Guide

Light Guides

OBB Corporation has a selection of fiber optic and liquid light guides to choose from depending on the application. Liquid light guides have become the flexible light guide of choice for non laser based light handling. If you would like to use a liquid light guide with your sample compartment then we have an adapter block that will connect the sample compartment to the light guide. The liquid light guides could be used to deliver light into or out from the sample compartment. Liquid Light Guide and Sample Compartment
Monochromator

Monochromators

OBB has an excellent 200 mm focal length monochromator, which is optically matched with the collection optics of the sample compartment. To learn more about our monochromators, click here. Liquid Light Guide

PMT Detectors

OBB Corporation has a selection of detectors that can be coupled to the sample compartment, including PMT housings (cooled and non-cooled) and InGaAs detectors. These detectors can be coupled directly to the sample compartment if you wanted to use the available filter holders for wavelength selection. If you want to have greater wavelength selection or scanning, one of our monochromators could be coupled between the sample compartment and the detector.
