Light source

The light source is a high intensity LED (1 W).  The LED current is controlled by a high stability driver.  The LED is installed on a heat sink, there is no additional temperature control or monitoring.  The intensity stability is 1% per degree at the heat sink (ambient temperature).  The light is focused onto the cuvette by a pair of lenses so that the light is collimated when passing through the polarizer and filter.  Each LED is pre-installed and pre-aligned on a heat sink and has a separate optimized driver PCB.  For wavelength selection there is a space for a 1-inch round optical filter immediately after the LED output. LED’s and filters can be exchanged in a matter of minutes.

Sample compartment

The sample compartment is T-format with sheet polarizers and filters. T-format detection allows for simultaneous polarization detection of the VH and VV channels for instantaneous anisotropy measurements. A polarizer and filter are fixed on each of the emission channels, and one manually movable polarizer (0↔90°) is on the excitation channel.  On each emission channel the light from the cuvette is collected by a pair of lenses so that the light is collimated when passing through the polarizer and filter. The thermo stabilized cuvette holder accepts a standard 10 x 10 mm cuvette or a holder for 8 mm test tubes. The cuvette holder is spring loaded to hold cuvettes in a reproducible position.

The standard Peltier temperature controller can be manually set anywhere in the range from 15 to 55 °C with an accuracy of 0.1 °C by adjusting a control on the back panel of the instrument. Peltier temperature stabilization is on continuously when the instrument is in use. The temperature of the cuvette holder is monitored and displayed by software in real time.


There are two PMT detectors with excellent low light detection characteristics.  The amplifiers are low noise charge sensitive types with 25 ms time constant. The PMT detectors are linear over 7 orders of magnitude. 


EasyLife™ FP comes with Windows compatible software that is so easy to use that literally anyone can use the system.

EasyLife™ QuickStart DVD

The EasyLife™ software that comes with the system can be loaded onto your Windows XP® laptop or computer. It loads easily on the computer and self-calibrates with the instrument. You will be able to get started acquiring data right away. Please note that the compatibility of the EasyLife™ software with customer supplied computers is not the responsibility of OBB Corp. If you are concerned about providing your own compatible laptop or computer, we can include a laptop (with EasyLife™ software pre-loaded) with your EasyLife™. If you do decide to provide your on computer, below are the minimum specification requirements.
